[Nix-dev] Has someone had success with vi-{cmd, ins}-mode-string setting for Bash 4.4?

Hi,

I'm on nixos, just updated to latest unstable:

    * System: 17.03pre93673.09e4b78 (Gorilla)
    * Nix version: nix-env (Nix) 1.11.4
    * Nixpkgs version: "17.03pre93673.09e4b78"

which includes Bash 4.4.

I try to get the vi-cmd-mode-string and vi-ins-mode-string feature
working, but it does not and I'm kinda lost and don't know why it
won't work.

the $BASH_VERSION is

    4.4.0(1)-release

so it should work fine, the manpage also lists everything I expect to
be there. But I don't know how to insert the mode string into my
prompt...

Can someone help me - or is there somebody out there who has this
thing working?
