Yes, sorry, should probably have done two replies, with one of them 
off-list. 

I am not advocating switching the VCS for NixPkgs now.

Initially I just explained why I am not doing anything in Git if it can
be done in GitHub UI and blamed on it if something fails, and for the
next letter the VCS part of the reply is an off-topic tangent.
