[Nix-dev] How does hydra move forward?

Hi,
I just wondered what the policy for hydra is to build unstable. Is it
that hydra grabs the latest commit of master and trys to build it and
if it succeeds it forwards the unstable channel and if it doesn't it
loops?
Or does it actually go back in the range between the last build commit
and the current build to try commits in between or something like
that?
