Peter,

My comment is not meant to be an insult, and I apologize if it is perceived as such.

What I intended to question is whether you use SCons in development projects (outside of maintaining the Nixpkgs expression) because then we could base this discussion on mutually shared experiences in working with SCons. To date, both Marc and I have asked you if you have explicit use cases---such as we have---and you have not replied. In absence of any specific information from you in this regard, we are left to make assumptions that your arguments are based on theory rather than practice---a theory which is commendable, but sometimes impractical.

Again, I was not intending a personal attack but rather to understand (and explicitly confirm) your position. I do believe in healthy technical debate, which is best provided when the debaters can clearly state reasons and justifications for their positions, understand their opponents concerns and proposals, and seek to provide a mutually beneficial compromise. I am very grateful for your contributions and for all other NixOS developer's contributions... that's why I'm here and interested!

I give you my full apology for my unintended insult and would like to return to our discussion of technical solutions for the SCons issues.

Agreed?
