Why not.  So far my ~/.emacs explicitly adds
"~/.nix-profile/share/emacs/site-lisp" to the load path.

OTOH, I also set $CPATH, $LIBRARY_PATH, $PKG_CONFIG_PATH, etc. manually
in ~/.bashrc so...
