I have committed the patches to the 'parallel-building-merger' branch, and
Rob Vermaas has kindly instructed Hydra to compile it. This means that, by
now, we have up-to-date binary packages for the modified stdenv.

So, I'm basically ready to complete this little endeavor. Are there any news
concerning the state of 'stdenv-updates'?
