Your statement seem to suggest excluding Nix from the Nixpkgs altogether
(if read literally). OK, I am nitpicking.

By the way, such patches could be done by packageOverrides or somehow
else in configuration.nix. Such a patch could be useful for others, so
you could share parts of your config in configurations/ tree.
