[Nix-dev] gcc 4.4.2 in stdenv - status

Hello,

this message may be interesting mostly for ludo, but concerns nixpkgs
users a bit, so I send it to the list.

ludo proposed merging soon the stdenv-updates branch to trunk, after
stabilization.

I've been trying to get the gcc 4.4.2 native compilers in the
sheevaplug, and that fails because of lack of recent enough  binutils
in the bootstrap files. I will try to overcome this, and generate new
bootstrap-files.

Regarding the usage of gcc 4.4.2 compilers to cross-build, I think gcc
4.4.2 has some bug:

It looks like cross-gcc 4.4.2 does not build well without a libc,
while gcc 4.4.1 and the svn branch 4.4.3 do.

Regarding glibc, 2.11 still did not have the "ports" until today. I
will start testing it in the sheevaplug.

If anyone feels any interest in getting these things working, welcome.
