[Nix-dev] Nixpkgs versioning

There is any rule for transforming app name + version to attribute name?
underscores and dashes are ok in attribute names but versions mostly use
dots (not sure if replacing them with underscore or dash is a good idea as
those chars are used in version strings as well).

I assume adding/allowing more chars in attribute names will make parsing
more difficult, it that the limiting factor?
