[Nix-dev] How to apply security updates for a non-nixos install?

Hello,
  I see from Nix wiki[1] that the recommended way of updating a
library used by a large number of programs is to use
`system.replaceRuntimeDependencies`. However, I do not understand how
to use this for a non NixOS installation of Nix packages. i.e I do not
have `/etc/nixos/configuration.nix` to update. Where do I add this
option?
