[Nix-dev] Is $NIX_OTHER_STORES still supported?

It is better in the sense of distributed filesystem-based locking being
hard and fragile.

I guess access-control can be solved by listening to localhost and using
SSH tunnelling. 

I am not sure which way give better performance.
