personally, I like the notion of switching the default compiler from
7.6.3 to 7.8.1 as soon as possible. I've already begun testing builds
with the current release candidate:

We have some 60+ failing builds standing in the way, though. Some
package authors are very responsive if I send them a bug report, but
others say that they won't fix anything until the 7.8.1 release is out.

Considering that situation, we'll probably need a few weeks to stabilize
the package set *after* the 7.8.1 release before we can switch.

Does that sound like a reasonable plan?
