[Nix-dev] NixOS (from USB) hangs at boot

I'm trying to install NixOS. I have the 32-bit ISO on a USB. But whether I
select default or the NixOS installer from the boot menu, it hangs when
starting up linux. The last line visible on the console is:

[ OK ] Reached target Sound Card.

If I try to switch to other virtual consoles, there is no response.

What can I try?
