The usual way is that you create your configuration.nix that completely
describes the system that you want to deploy, and then you just build it
with nix. The liveCD is well-suited environment to do that for the first
time, later a working nix(os) is better (just one nixos-rebuild command).
There's also nixops for some more advanced automatic deployment, I think
(I've never used it, so I don't know much).
P.S.: If I'm not much mistaken, I know you from MFF UK lectures ;-)
