I've got a multi-user set-up working, but needed to make changes to
the following:
/etc/profile.d/nix.sh -- copying a lot of the configuration from
NixOS's /etc/profile w.r.t. profile, gcroots, NIX_REMOTE=daemon

one of the Makefiles -- to make sure that nix.sh is installed without
executable permissions (it's meant to be sourced, not to be executed
directly)

Emacs mode file -- splitting the functionality into nix-mode.el and
nix-mode-init.el

I'll submit a pull request when I've tidied things up -- should I bump
up the version number to 1.0.1 for this? Without a regenerated tarball
(with a patched profile script) Nix would be unusable out of the box.
