I tried this several weeks ago and there were more newly broken 
packages, e.g. kdemultimedia. I also found some packages (perhaps not 
built by hydra) that have already been broken by ffmpeg update before 
and need some 0.7 or 0.9 version.

It is a question how many different versions of ffmpeg we want to 
tolerate to have at once. Also, the 0.6 branch used for some packages is 
deprecated.

Feel free to take stuff from my old effort on 
https://github.com/vcunat/nixpkgs/commits/vlada/video2 . I chose here 
the way of many ffmpeg versions where almost all packages just use the 
newest, only several use 0.9 and there are a few old things that only 
built with 0.7 or 0.5 branches. At least you can see here with which 
versions I managed to build.

I wanted to propose some of the changes to stdenv inclusion anyway (as 
ffmpeg is quite heavily used) but I just haven't found the energy (yet) 
to compose&clean it and submit a pull request.
