[Nix-dev] Unable to get gconfd to run

I would expect the gconfd daemon to run after using:
$ gconftool-2 --spawn
However gconftool-2 reports the daemon is not running after this.
$ gconftool-2 -p
$ echo $?
2
and 2 is defined as "daemon is not running".

I have syslog set up to log user. Which according to the gconf
documentation is how gconf will report errors.

In addition I have GConf under the list of dbus services.

Any ideas?

BTW is there an issue tracker for nixpkgs?
