I use what I call "nixos-system-tarball". Hydra builds some of those for pc... I have
an old one here:

I think that's from January 2011. I could use it as nfsroot iirc, loading the kernel
with tftp. If it does not work for some reason, we should fix it. I think that's
the image ludo used to boot his guruplug.
