Network failure? Try $curl htttp://www.google.com
ping is not always supported on all virtual systems depending on your
network setup

If you got a manifest earlier add --fast to switch. This will prevent
fetching the manifest again. You want to fetch it at least once to get
binaries instead of building everything from source.
