Doesn't this make future X11 updates harder?  E.g. if 7.7 comes out and I
generate tarballs-7.7, I have to go over extra.list to figure out which entries
should be removed...

FWIW, "tarballs-7.6" is a bit of a misnomer: it's not 7.6, but 7.6 *plus*
cherry-picked updates to the packages in 7.6.  "extra.list" on the other hand
should be a list of packages that are not part of X.org.
