I think you're right Ludo. The current version of nix needs the show
trace switch to show output like :
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at
It's one of the new features IIRC.

So Eric, I think you need to pull the svn for nixpkgs, then update
just nix. Then it could work.
