Of course this should only work for some obvious patterns such as
http://.*/([^/]+-[^/]+)\.[^/]*
           name-version.ext?params
or such..

How do you upgrade?
I do by entering $(dirname url) into the browser, use the right mouse
button (copy address) on the lastest and copy paste that into the
expression. This way inserting a variable again is more work.
But I don't think it really matters
