I just spent a heck of a time trying to get nixos booted in vmware. The problem was that mptspi wasn't loaded by default in boot.initrd.kernelModules. Adding it to boot.initrd.extraKernelModules worked though. Think it'd be possible to be added by default so that others wouldn't have this problem? -e
